A Bit About Us

Nick
Safety And Survival Cadets was created by Nick McCarthy. He is an 8th degree black belt and has 40 years experience in all aspects of martial arts, self protection, tactical thinking, urban safety and survival.
The SAS Cadets syllabus was developed over many years and is the culmination of a lifetime's work.
Nick is also one of only a handful of people in the world who teaches the previously secret Defendu method. This martial art was created by Colonel William Ewart Fairbairn for the Special Forces, Commandos and spies of WW2. Our SAS Cadets syllabus teaches an age-appropriate form of Defendu.
A lot of research has also gone into teaching methods where children will thrive and quickly gain confidence. SAS Cadets classes are truly unique and transform the lives of many young people.

Rachel
Hi, I'm one of the instructors of SAS Cadets. I have been involved in martial arts for over 16 years and have been teaching children martial arts for several years.
I have a background in psychology and research, including researching depression and anxiety in children. I left the NHS to focus on my son, and as he become older I was concerned, as any parent would be about their children, about enabling him to stay safe in an increasingly violent, bullying and media-focused world. The SAS Cadets syllabus does that!
I have watched the children I teach grow physically and psychologically, developing their skills, discipline and confidence as they progress with our classes. It's rewarding and fun as well as informative. I look forward to welcoming you to our classes :)
